SUNOCO Sunice SL-22S is a synthetic polyol ester (POE) refrigeration oil with a kinematic viscosity of 22.5 cSt at 40 °C, which places it inside the ISO VG 22 band. It is the lightest grade in Japan Sun Oil's Sunice SL series, the synthetic line that was marketed as the SUNISO SL series until the brand name of the synthetic products was changed in 2017. The series is designed for compressors charged with HFC and HFO refrigerants, and Japan Sun Oil states that it is miscible and compatible with R-134a, R404A, R407C, R410A and R507.
We supply this grade in two forms. The first is the original SUNOCO product from Japan Sun Oil Company. The second is the equivalent POE grade we manufacture ourselves at our own blending plant in Foshan, China — our ester range covers 22 to 220 cSt at 40 °C, and the 22 cSt grade is our QSL-22H. Both ship from Guangzhou. There is no fixed minimum order — it is confirmed per order, because a single can and a full container load are both workable and the figure moves with the pack size, the quantity and the destination. Delivery is on any Incoterms 2020 term — EXW, FOB, CFR, CIF, DDP and every other rule — and payment is on any commonly used method, including T/T, L/C and PayPal — send the compressor model, the refrigerant and the system's evaporating temperature and we will quote both, so you can compare on landed cost.
QISHANR is a refrigeration oil manufacturer and wholesale supplier, and this grade is supplied in bulk to distributors, HVACR service companies and compressor OEMs worldwide.
SUNOCO Sunice SL-22S is supplied on published terms: the viscosity class, the price terms, the payment terms and the documents are the same for every buyer, and they can be quoted without a site visit. The minimum order is deliberately left open, because it is judged case by case: the grade, the quantity, the pack size, the shipping terms and the container load all move it, so a single can and a full container load are both workable and neither is treated as the normal case. Send us the quantity, the destination port and whether your own brand goes on the container, and those three turn the table below into a firm quotation. Documents and lead time work the same way on every order: the technical data sheet and safety data sheet come with the quotation, and the certificate of analysis for the delivered batch comes with the shipment. This grade is supplied wholesale and in bulk — to distributors, HVACR service companies, compressor OEMs and private-label buyers — as well as in single packs and sample quantities.
| Item | Terms for Sunice SL-22S |
|---|---|
| Minimum order quantity | Not a fixed figure — confirmed per order, because it is judged case by case: the grade, the pack size, the quantity, the shipping terms and the container load all move it, so a single can and a full container load are both workable |
| Payment terms | Any commonly used payment method — T/T, L/C, PayPal and every other option — confirmed with the order |
| Price terms | Any Incoterms 2020 term — EXW, FOB, CFR, CIF, DDP and every other rule — quoted against your destination port |
| Supply ability | 1,000 pieces per year |
| Origin | Japan for the original SUNOCO product; China for the equivalent we manufacture |
| Supply options | The original SUNOCO Sunice SL-22S from Japan Sun Oil Company, or the equivalent 22 cSt POE grade we manufacture at our blending plant in Foshan, China (our QSL-22H — 22 cSt at 40 °C, category ISO VG 22) |
| Who buys this grade | Distributors and resellers who stock refrigeration oil, HVACR and refrigeration service companies, compressor OEMs filling new equipment, and buyers who need private-label or own-brand packing. Wholesale and bulk orders are the norm; trial and sample quantities are also supplied. |
| Grade confirmation | Send the compressor model, the refrigerant and the evaporating temperature. The SL series covers 10 to 320 cSt at 40 °C, and 22 cSt is the light end of that range, so we confirm that SL-22S is the right viscosity for your system before quoting |
| Viscosity class | 22.5 cSt at 40 °C, which falls inside the ISO VG 22 band (19.8–24.2 cSt) defined by ISO 3448 |
| Pack size | Confirmed at quotation. Custom pack formats are available as a quotation item. |
| Documents issued with the order | Technical data sheet, safety data sheet, and a certificate of analysis for the delivered batch |
| Handling and storage | Store sealed, away from direct sunlight, and keep the container closed between top-ups — polyol ester oils absorb moisture from the air, and moisture is what shortens their service life. Do not decant into an unlined steel drum. |
Supply ability is stated for this grade rather than for the plant as a whole. It is not the annual capacity of the blending plant.
The line between one viscosity class and the next is drawn by the compressor duty and the refrigerant, not by the drum size. Send the model and the refrigerant and we will confirm which class your system takes.
A lubricant order is rarely only a lubricant order. The buyer is usually solving a grade question, an import documentation question, a freight question and a packaging question at the same time — often across more than one product family. Those are the parts of the job we take on, and they are handled by the same team that quotes the oil rather than passed to a third party.
We are a manufacturer rather than a reseller, which is what makes that possible. The blending plant in Foshan, Guangdong runs at 6,000 tonnes a year and has been producing lubricants for more than ten years, so the answer to most of the questions below comes out of our own production and our own paperwork. The enquiries that reach us on this grade are consistent: the buyer has an oil in the system, a data sheet in hand, and needs to know whether the two match.
| What you are dealing with | What we do about it |
|---|---|
| You cannot tell whether the system takes 22 cSt or the 32 cSt grade next to it | Send the compressor model, the refrigerant and the operating temperatures. The Sunice SL series is the same oil type at a range of viscosities and the light grades are separated by the compressor duty and the refrigerant, so the answer comes from the data sheet rather than from the can. We confirm the grade in writing before you order, so it can be checked against the specification. |
| You are converting a CFC/HCFC system to an HFC refrigerant | HFC and HFO refrigerants are not miscible with mineral oil, so a conversion changes the oil as well as the gas. The Sunice SL series is the polyol ester line Japan Sun Oil designed for HFC/HFO duty, and its GS mineral line is the mineral counterpart. We will tell you what the changeover involves on the documentation side, including the moisture limit a polyol ester charge has to meet. |
| You need the original SUNOCO product and the paperwork to match it | We quote the original Sunice SL-22S with its manufacturer documentation, or our own equivalent with our own batch certificate of analysis — and we say plainly which one is which, so the choice is yours and not buried in the invoice. |
| You are buying alongside other oils and want them on one order | Refrigeration oils are the core of our business, not the whole plant. The same lines produce air compressor oils, vacuum pump oils and general industrial lubricants, and a mixed enquiry can be quoted, packed and shipped together rather than split across suppliers. |
| You need documentation for customs or for a tender | CE, CO, MSDS and transport certification are issued as standard documents with an export order. Tell us at the enquiry stage which certificate the destination requires and we compile the file with the quotation rather than after the shipment. |
The point of this list is that the questions are answered before the order rather than after it. If you are unsure which of them applies to you, describe the system and we will tell you what we need.
Grade confirmation comes before pricing, because the Sunice SL range is the same oil type at a range of viscosities and a wrong class is the mistake that costs a compressor. The sequence is the same whether you are buying one can or a full container:
If you already know the grade and only need a price, send the quantity and the destination port and we will quote directly.
The values below are Japan Sun Oil's published figures for Sunice SL-22S, taken from the manufacturer's English product portfolio. Nothing in this table is our own measurement, so every figure can be checked against the source at the end of the page.
| Property | Typical Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Oil type | Synthetic polyol ester (POE) | Japan Sun Oil — Sunice product portfolio |
| ISO viscosity grade | ISO VG 22 (ISO 3448) | Derived — 22.5 cSt falls inside the 19.8–24.2 cSt band |
| Kinematic viscosity at 40 °C | 22.5 cSt | Japan Sun Oil — Sunice product portfolio |
| Kinematic viscosity at 100 °C | 4.1 cSt | Japan Sun Oil — Sunice product portfolio |
| Density at 15 °C | 0.951 g/cm³ | Japan Sun Oil — Sunice product portfolio |
| Pour point | below −50 °C | Japan Sun Oil — Sunice product portfolio |
| Flash point (COC) | 212 °C | Japan Sun Oil — Sunice product portfolio |
| Refrigerant miscibility | R-134a, R404A, R407C, R410A, R507 | Japan Sun Oil — Sunice product portfolio |
Japan Sun Oil states the pour point of SL-22S as “below −50 °C” rather than as a single figure, so the exact cold limit is not published for this grade. If your system runs at an extreme low temperature, confirm the requirement with us and we will check it against the manufacturer data.
A viscosity class is a band, not a single number, and the two figures below are the ones that decide whether a 22 cSt polyol ester suits a given circuit. Both come from the published values above rather than from our own measurement.
| Parameter | Value for Sunice SL-22S | What it controls |
|---|---|---|
| Kinematic viscosity at 40 °C | 22.5 cSt — inside the ISO VG 22 band of 19.8–24.2 cSt | The film thickness in the bearings and the load the oil places on the compressor. This is the figure a replacement has to match. |
| Viscosity at 100 °C | 4.1 cSt | How much the film thins at operating temperature. A lighter oil thins further, which is why the 22 cSt grade belongs on the lightly loaded machines it was specified for. |
| Pour point | below −50 °C | The cold end of the working window. The low pour point is why the light SL grades are used in low-temperature refrigeration, where a heavier oil would stop flowing. |
| Flash point (COC) | 212 °C | The hot end of the working window and a rough measure of how the oil behaves at the discharge valve. |
Do not step to a heavier class to solve a wear problem without checking the compressor duty with us first. Raising the viscosity raises the load on the machine, and on a system that was specified for a lighter oil that is the wrong direction of travel.
The Sunice SL series is one synthetic polyol ester oil type offered across a range of viscosity classes, so the grades differ in thickness rather than in chemistry. The table shows the line as Japan Sun Oil publishes it, with this product marked.
| Grade | Oil type | Viscosity at 40 °C | ISO VG class | Where it is used |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sunice SL-10S | POE (synthetic) | 10.1 cSt | ISO VG 10 | The lightest synthetic grade in the line |
| Sunice SL-22S (this product) | POE (synthetic) | 22.5 cSt | ISO VG 22 | The light grade for low-viscosity and low-temperature circuits |
| Sunice SL-32S | POE (synthetic) | 32.3 cSt | ISO VG 32 | The grade above this one |
| Sunice SL-46S | POE (synthetic) | 45.8 cSt | ISO VG 46 | The middle of the synthetic SL line |
| Sunice SL-68S | POE (synthetic) | 66.6 cSt | ISO VG 68 | A widely used mid-range synthetic grade |
| Sunice SL-100S | POE (synthetic) | 98.1 cSt | ISO VG 100 | The lighter of the two 100-class synthetic grades |
| Sunice SL-120T | POE (synthetic) | 115.8 cSt | Outside any ISO VG band | Between the 100 cSt and 170 cSt grades |
| Sunice SL-170T | POE (synthetic) | 161.0 cSt | ISO VG 150 | The grade above the 100-class oils |
| Sunice SL-220T | POE (synthetic) | 216.0 cSt | ISO VG 220 | Higher-viscosity synthetic grade for heavier-duty refrigeration and air-conditioning plant |
| Sunice SL-320T | POE (synthetic) | 310.0 cSt | ISO VG 320 | The highest-viscosity grade in the synthetic SL line |
Japan Sun Oil publishes a single ISO VG number for each SL grade, and for SL-120T it prints 120, which does not correspond to a band in ISO 3448. The class number in the table is stated as the manufacturer labels it.
If this grade is not the one you need, the sections below show where it sits against the rest of the Sunice range and against the oils we manufacture ourselves, so a substitution can be checked before it is ordered.
| Brand | Grade | Viscosity at 40 °C | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Qishanr | POE refrigeration oil | 22 cSt, our QSL-22H | Our own equivalent to this viscosity class, blended in Foshan, China |
| SUNOCO | Sunice SL series | 10 to 320 cSt | The full synthetic line; SL-22S is the second lightest grade in it |
| SUNOCO | Sunice GS series | 32, 56 and 100 cSt | The mineral (naphthenic) line for CFC, HCFC and natural refrigerants — not interchangeable with a polyol ester charge |
A polyol ester and a mineral oil are not interchangeable even at the same viscosity. Match the base oil type to the refrigerant before matching the viscosity class.
SUNOCO Sunice SL-22S is a synthetic polyol ester (POE) with a viscosity of 22.5 cSt at 40 °C, and the base oil type is the part that decides whether the charge works at all. HFC and HFO refrigerants are not miscible with mineral oil, so a mineral charge in an R-134a or R407C circuit does not travel with the refrigerant: oil collects in the evaporator and the compressor sump runs dry. Polyol ester is miscible with those refrigerants, so the oil circulates through the circuit and returns to the sump. Japan Sun Oil designed the Sunice SL series specifically for HFC/HFO duty and names R-134a, R404A, R407C, R410A and R507 as miscible and compatible.
Naming: the Sunice SL series was marketed as the SUNISO SL series until the brand name of Japan Sun Oil's synthetic products was changed in 2017. Older plant documentation may still carry the SUNISO name for the same oil.
The viscosity class is chosen from the compressor duty, not from the drum size. The 22 cSt grade is the light end of the SL range, and the low viscosity is what makes it suitable for a lightly loaded machine: a thin oil flows easily through a small-bore circuit and returns to the sump at low temperature, where a heavier oil would be sluggish. A heavier grade on the same machine would raise the film thickness as well as the internal load, and a system that was specified for a 22 cSt oil was specified that way for a reason.
The other direction is just as easy to get wrong. Dropping to the 22 cSt grade on a machine that was designed for a heavier oil thins the film in the bearings and can let metal touch metal under load. The figure to work from is the compressor manufacturer's requirement, and the class in the Sunice range that matches it; that is the point at which we confirm the grade against the Japan Sun Oil data before quoting.
Japan Sun Oil publishes the pour point of SL-22S as “below −50 °C” rather than as a single figure, and that open limit is the reason this grade is used in low-temperature refrigeration. In a freezer or a low-temperature chiller the oil has to stay fluid at the evaporator temperature so that it returns to the compressor; an oil that thickens to a wax stops circulating long before it stops lubricating, and the compressor is starved of oil while the machine is still running.
The 22 cSt grade and the low pour point go together in the SL range: the lighter the oil, the lower the temperature at which it still flows. If your system runs colder than the published limit for the grade you have, send us the evaporating temperature and we will check the next grade down in the range against the manufacturer data.
Polyol ester oils absorb moisture from the air, and the moisture is what shortens their service life: at high temperature, in the presence of the ester and the refrigerant, water promotes hydrolysis and the formation of acids that attack the windings and the metal surfaces. That is why the storage instruction on this page is not generic advice. The container should be resealed after every top-up, the oil should not be left open in a humid plant, and it should not be decanted into an unlined steel drum where it can pick up rust and moisture.
In a conversion the same point applies to the circuit rather than to the container. The system has to be evacuated and the moisture limit met before the polyol ester charge goes in, because the water that is left in the pipework ends up in the oil. The compressor manufacturer's changeover procedure is the document to work from, and we will confirm the documentation side of the change with the quotation.
The Sunice SL series is one oil type across a range of viscosity classes from 10 to 320 cSt at 40 °C, so two grades that look almost identical on the drum can be wrong for each other's machine. A quotation that skips the grade check is a price for a product that may not fit the unit it is going into, and the cost of that mistake is a compressor rather than a drum of oil.
So the sequence is fixed: send the compressor or unit model, the refrigerant and the evaporating temperature, and we confirm the class against the Japan Sun Oil data before the price is issued. That is also what makes the two supply options comparable, because the original SUNOCO product and our own equivalent grade are quoted against the same confirmed class rather than against a guess.
We manufacture lubricants at our own blending plant in Foshan, Guangdong, which runs at 6,000 tonnes a year and has been producing for more than ten years. That means we can quote the original SUNOCO Sunice SL-22S from Japan Sun Oil Company and an equivalent 22 cSt POE grade from our own line side by side, and say plainly which is which on the quotation.
It also means the answer to a question about the oil comes from the plant rather than from an intermediary. If you need to compare the two on landed cost, or to know which documents come with each, tell us at the enquiry stage and we will quote both against your destination port so the comparison is on the delivered figure rather than on a list price.
Alongside the refrigeration oils the same plant produces air compressor oils, vacuum pump oils and general industrial lubricants, so a mixed enquiry can be quoted, packed and shipped as one order rather than split across suppliers.
A: There is no fixed minimum order — it is confirmed per order, because it depends on the pack size, the quantity and the destination, and a single can and a full container load are both workable. Pack sizes are confirmed at quotation, and custom pack formats and private-label artwork are available as a quotation item, so if your own label has to go on the container, say so when you enquire and it is quoted as part of the project rather than added afterwards.
A: SUNOCO Sunice SL-22S is a synthetic polyol ester (POE) refrigeration oil with a kinematic viscosity of 22.5 cSt at 40 °C, which places it in the ISO VG 22 class. It is the lightest of the SL grades that Japan Sun Oil sells under its own number in the synthetic line, and it is part of the Sunice SL series, the synthetic line the company designed for compressors charged with HFC and HFO refrigerants. Japan Sun Oil states the series is used in reciprocating, screw, centrifugal and scroll compressors and in refrigerators, freezers, chillers and industrial refrigeration systems, and names R-134a, R404A, R407C, R410A and R507 as miscible and compatible refrigerants.
A: The two grades are the same synthetic polyol ester oil type at two different viscosity classes. SL-22S measures 22.5 cSt at 40 °C and SL-32S measures 32.3 cSt at 40 °C, so the difference is the film thickness the oil forms in the bearings and the load it places on the compressor. They are not interchangeable on a machine that was specified for one of them; match the class to the compressor duty and the refrigerant.
A: No. When a system is converted from a CFC or HCFC refrigerant to an HFC or HFO refrigerant, the mineral oil charge has to be replaced by a polyol ester charge as well, because HFC and HFO refrigerants are not miscible with mineral oil. The Sunice SL series is the polyol ester line for that duty and the Sunice GS series is the mineral counterpart; the two are not mixed. Confirm the changeover procedure with us before the system is charged.
A: Japan Sun Oil publishes R-134a, R404A, R407C, R410A and R507 as miscible and compatible with the Sunice SL series, and states that the SL series is designed for HFC and HFO refrigerants. For a refrigerant outside that list, send us the gas and we will check it against the manufacturer data before quoting.
A: Japan Sun Oil publishes the pour point as “below −50 °C”, so the exact figure is not given for this grade. The low pour point is the reason the light SL grades are used in low-temperature refrigeration: the oil has to keep flowing at the evaporator temperature, and a heavier grade would stop moving. If your system runs at an extreme low temperature, confirm the limit with us.
A: Polyol ester oils are compatible with the elastomers normally used in HFC refrigeration systems, but they have a strong solvent effect on some older materials and on certain paints and varnishes. In a conversion, the seals and the system cleanliness should be checked as part of the changeover rather than assumed. The manufacturers' refrigerant and lubricant guidance for the compressor is the document to work from.
A: Yes. Private-label artwork and custom pack formats are a normal quotation item on our own equivalent grade, and the container is packed at our plant in Foshan. Tell us at the enquiry stage that your own label is required, and the artwork and the pack are quoted together with the oil rather than added afterwards.
A: Store it sealed, away from direct sunlight, and keep the container closed between top-ups. A polyol ester absorbs moisture from the air, and moisture is what shortens its service life and can cause acid formation at high temperature, so the container should be resealed after every use and the oil should not be decanted into an unlined steel drum.
Every figure on this page is taken from a published document rather than from our own measurement, so each one can be checked before you buy. This is the set of sources, with the document each figure came from.

This oil is manufactured and supplied by Guangzhou Qishanr Technologies Co., Ltd., trading as the brand QISHANR. The company is based in Foshan, Guangdong, adjacent to Guangzhou Port, and has been producing lubricants for more than 10 years from its own blending plant. That plant runs at an annual capacity of 6,000 tonnes, which is what allows us to hold stock on the grades we list and quote firm lead times rather than promising on behalf of a third party.
Refrigeration oils are the core of the business, but they are not the whole plant. The same lines produce general industrial lubricants, so a mixed enquiry that covers both refrigeration oils and ordinary industrial grades can be quoted, packed and shipped together instead of being split across suppliers.
This is not the full range. Specialised ester base oils and lubricant additives are produced in-house as well, which is the reason the synthetic ester grades can be specified to a target rather than bought off a shelf. If the grade you need is not listed above, send the specification or the product you are replacing and we will confirm whether we produce it.
Long-term partners get pricing that reflects a stable manufacturing base rather than a trading margin, and the same technical contact stays with the account from grade selection through to repeat orders.
Sunice SL-22S is a 22 cSt polyol ester, so a quotation depends on the grade, the pack size and the destination port rather than on a list price. Send your compressor or unit model, the refrigerant and the quantity you need. We will confirm the viscosity class against the Japan Sun Oil data — including whether your system takes the 22 cSt grade or the class next to it — and come back with pricing, pack size and lead time. A technical data sheet and safety data sheet come with the quotation, and we can quote the original SUNOCO product or our own equivalent 22 cSt POE side by side so the comparison is on landed cost.
